Camden Catalyst Partner: Lifeafterhummus Community Benefit Society
Lifeafterhummus Community Benefit Society is a registered, black and minority ethnic (BAME)-led non-profit society based in Somers Town, that tackles food poverty and intersections of health inequalities. It operates a circular economy model by redistributing tonnes of surplus food and pre-loved goods to vulnerable households and community hubs as well as a community cafe at 5 Pancras Square.
Camden Catalyst partner work
Our Catalyst project establishes a two‑year pilot designed to transform Camden’s food system by creating a human‑led, ultra‑local infrastructure that captures perfectly edible surplus food from businesses and redirects it to residents experiencing food insecurity. At its core our dedicated Food Systems Partnership lead will build and embed a new operational system: onboarding local businesses to donate surplus food, connecting them with nearby VCS organisations, training both sides in safe and compliant food handling, and leveraging Environmental Health Officers to integrate food‑waste messaging into routine inspections.
What is your role as a catalyst in Camden's food system?
Our catalyst work will strengthen collaboration across Camden’s networks, support volunteer recruitment, troubleshoot logistics, and deepen partnerships with fellow catalyst partners Feast With Us and Cooperation Town to diversify supply chains and empower community‑led food models. This work directly aligns with the Catalyst Fund’s aims by increasing strategic capacity, driving systemic transformation, and generating shared intelligence which will ultimately reduce waste, increase access to nutritious food, cut carbon emissions, and create a replicable model for borough‑wide resilience.
